" another tournament"
We decided to fish another of these tournaments. After much ado, I finally made it out to the lake about 4:30 and off we went. Jaime had a few new baits that have been working pretty good lately so we started with those. Two slot fish right away. We then concentrated on big worms and ended with a small limit. We were able to cull out the smallest fish but it did not help much. There were 20 boats in it and we finished 3rd so that's not to bad. We won a whopping $40....the same as the entry fee. They paid 4 places so I guess fourth place "won" less than the entry fee. Must be a top heavy pay out for sure. A few thoughts about these tournaments:
- I enjoy fishing against a clock....hence my main reason for fishing tournaments.
- The "winning" team" killed all of their fish. They all floated when put back in. They also brought in several slot fish and they probably died too. Several other people threw fish back in that died as well, one in particular that was surprising.
- There apparently is no penalty for dead fish in these tournaments so no real motivation for a lot of folks to keep them alive.
- I personally don't think that enough fish are harvested from Harris Lake so overall, it is probably a healthy thing for the lake to have fish taken out. On the flip side, if you know you are going to release a fish at the end of the day, take care of it well so it lives.
- Jaime's livewell ensures the fish we bring in actually are in better shape when we release them.
