"it has begun"

Made my way to the lake alone at daybreak.  I do not fish alone often so it was kind of strange not having anyone to blame for the pre dawn flatuation.  I owned it and it felt good!  Anyway, off to find bait hoping last week was a fluke.  It was not.  I could not find it anywhere again.  Jaime did report seeing it in the afternoons so I waited.  About 3:30PM it finally showed up.  They are tightly schooled and on top which I have never seen them do for this long a time.   It makes it very hard to catch them, but catch them I did.  I managed about 300 of the fattest shad you ever did see and I was off to check the offshore spots.  I had 5 spots in mind and did not see a single fish on any of them.  That sucked.

I decided to fish the side of a point that I know they like to cruise.  I had the boat anchored in 14 feet and was casting in to 17-19 feet of water.  I started there about 5:15PM and fished until 7:45PM.  In that short period of time, I caught 21 Bass, 12-15 big White Perch, a Bullhead and a Pickerel.  The bass were post spawn and STARVING!  The biggest fish was 24 1/2 inches (usually 8.5-9.5lbs.) and weighed 6 pounds!  It was a lot of fun and the other spots should be turning on real soon.
